"Rafael Sánchez Mombiedro is an active choral composer, arranger, director, and a professor of Improvisation at the ""Conservatorio Superior de Música” in Valencia, Spain. He earned a PhD in music from the “Universidad Politécnica” of Valencia, Spain. His musical career has been linked to choral music since his childhood. Mombiedro began his musical training in his hometown as a chorister of the “Escolanía de la Virgen”. After directing community choral ensembles for several years, in 2003 he founded the all-professional chamber choir, NEOVOCALIS. This group’s repertoire is varied but specializes in contemporary choral literature, and as such, it has premiered most of Mombiedro’s compositions. His choral compositions are mostly sacred and include original pieces (many a cappella) and arrangements for choir and piano. Many of his arrangements are published by À Coeur Joie. Mombiedro’s awards include the Choral Composition Prize “Juan Bautista Comes” 2001 from Segorbe and the “Paco LLácer” Prize for Choral Composition, in the modalities of children's choir (2001) and mixed choir (2010 and 2017)."
