About the Score

To compose this work I have been inspired by the third of Mendelssohn's Three Motets op. 69, 'Herr, nun lässest du'. I have tried to present an image of both endearing tenderness (the elderly Simeon with the Infant Jesus in his arms) and majesty and solemnity, which reaches its climax in 'glory of thy people Israel'. It ends with the minor doxology and a coda reflecting a serene and confident attitude to the twilight of life. Nunc Dimittis was premiered by NEOVOCALIS, conducted by myself, on 2 April 2022 whitin the HOPE project.
