Marybeth Kurnat (1987) is an emerging voice in choral music in the Chicago area. Her compositional style is heavily influenced by her musical foundations as a jazz saxophonist, most clearly illustrated in her colorful and adventurous harmonic vocabulary. Her work, "I, Lover," was the 2021-22 winner of the Stephen Paulus Emerging Composer’s Competition. Marybeth holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University, and serves as a vocal and instrumental music educator in DeKalb, IL. She maintains an active performance schedule with the St. Charles Singers, Chicago Choral Artists, and Grant Park Music Festival Chorus.
