"Gaudete is a sacred Christmas carol thought to have been composed in the 16th century, but could easily have existed as a monophonic hymn in the late medieval period. The song was published in Piae Cantiones, a collection of Finnish/Swedish sacred songs published in 1582. It is adapted and presented here in a version for full orchestra and SSATBarB chorus. A fragment of the Gloria appears between sections contrasting bell and flute tones with the bombast of the original Medieval hymn melody."
