About the Score

This meditative setting amplifies the idea of rising by way of ascending lines. It begins in D minor and is transformed by the end to the relative F major. George Herbert (1598-1633) was a Welsh-born poet and Anglican priest. This Easter poem, published in 1633 after his death, is one of his most well known.
