About the Score

"Canticle" draws its text from the "Confessions" of Augustine of Hippo. Autobiographical in character, this work does not attempt to tell the story of all the years of his life. Rather, it is a self-examination of his life, in which he makes a confession of sin, a confession of faith, and a confession of praise to the God who has relentlessly pursued him. "Canticle" is a meditation on the journey of faith that Augustine makes, presenting it as a very personal musical prayer. And though it is the prayer of one of the Church's saints, it is truly a prayer that must be echoed by all who seek after God.
