David Rain is a "late in life" choral composer whose songs have been performed across Canada and in Austria, Germany and Sweden. After decades of choral singing, David first caught "the composing bug" in his mid-60s. Since then, he has written or arranged over 30 songs, all of them dedicated to individuals (and groups) who are dear to him. Professionally, David received English, Law, and Development Studies degrees, and he worked for 40 years in the fields of international development and refugee/immigrant support, including 10 years in the East African country of Tanzania. David has been an amateur singer most of his life, singing with the Christ Church Cathedral boys choir in Vancouver in the 1960s and then the Vancouver Bach Choir in the 1970s. After a 10-year choral hiatus while in Tanzania, David returned to Ottawa, Canada in 1992, where for 28 years he sang tenor with the award-winning a cappella chamber choir, The Stairwell Carollers. David is a great fan of Mahler, Bruckner and pioneering Medieval/Renaissance composers. At the end of each year, David donates 50% of his composer income to Canadian charities.
