Dr. Michael J. Johnson is Director of Choral Activities and Vocal Music Education at Minnesota State Moorhead. There he conducts the Dragon Choir & University Choir, and teaches a slate of undergraduate music coursework. Michael earned degrees from Luther College, the University of Denver, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His choirs are vehemently committed to the performance of new works, and his singers have performed and presented at state conferences. An avid clinician and guest conductor, Michael has also been selected for numerous research presentations on topics from America’s choral response to police brutality, to the dangers and pitfalls of A.I. in choral programming. Michael was the recipient of the 2020 Mullen Sacred Music Prize in Composition.
