Commissioned by the Penn State Glee Club (Christopher Kiver, director), When Music Sounds sets text by Walter de la Mare and is an ode to the power of music. The piece opens with a gently unfolding piano introduction answered by the chorus; the first stanza is sung by tenors and basses, the second by sopranos and altos, and the third by the full chorus. Originally TTBB & piano; also arr. SATB & piano and SSAA & piano. Chamber ensemble orchestration (fl, ob, cl, hn, bn, 2vn, va, vc, db, hp) available from composer. Duration approx. 4'.
