About the Score

"Two to Tango" (2026) is a new composition inspired by my experience learning ballroom dance at Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Ann Arbor. Conceived as a companion piece to "Waltz for Izabela," this new work celebrates another of the foundational dances in the Fred Astaire Trophy System curriculum: the Tango.

Dedicated to my new instructor and dance partner, Jhistine Baguio, the piece received its first public performance as part of our June 13, 2026 studio showcase, where we danced together to this original music. Two to Tango aims to capture the dance's unmistakable character—its dramatic pauses, sharp accents, sweeping lines, and moments of playful conversation between the partners. Like the dance itself, it is both elegant and passionate, balancing precision with spontaneity.
