About the Score

The piece was inspired by a poem about love in different phases of human life. The first scene is a childhood memory. The poetic voice (then a child) listens to the comforting song of a yellowbird perched on the rooftop. She knows the bird can only stay for a while and will soon leave. The second scene takes place in adulthood. The setting is now reversed: it is she who must sometimes leave. Whenever she does, a lover’s voice (just as light and gentle as the bird’s song) sees her off. The lover knows she belongs to his world only partially, yet stays beside her with tenderness. This simple act of letting go, a quiet echo of the child’s wisdom, is the token of a deep love.
