About the Score

This is the only piece I have ever written entirely in one sitting--a piece that seemed to spring forth out of some sort of emotional necessity. The text seeks to glorify the beauty of God's creation, and to also accept the humble reality that we will never be able to create something as beautiful as that which already exists in the natural world. "Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree." The homophonic texture throughout is meant to be hymn-like, and the clashing harmonies intertwined with moments of sonic clarity symbolize the internal struggle of trying to understand and accept our own humanness.
