About the Score

In the Schubertian tradition, Kira Zeeman Rugen composed this art song to portray the supernatural and mystic elements of nineteenth century poetry. Kira Rugen sets pianistic effects which relate closely to the eerie text of a Mountain Sprite as she haunts her victim. The magical sprite wins her prey after she kisses the unsuspecting youth, who then falls in love and loses his soul to the supernatural magic of the Mountain Sprite.
