This wonderful Walt Whitman poem is a testament to wandering outside and seeing, feeling, breathing the night sky rather than sitting in a bright room listening to a lecture about stars. The music begins with am impatient pulse, as if the student is tapping their feet, hoping the lecture will end. From there the pulse slows, it becomes calmer and somewhat mysterious until the last quiet, hopeful, 9th chord.
