About the Score

Commissioned by the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus. A haunting and beautiful setting of Madison Julius Cawein’s tragic love poem, “The Hushed House,” which allows the sounds of the words themselves to become equal partners to the text. Flynn uses this technique as a way to create a parallel between the music and the poem on a surface level and a symbolic one.
