About the Score

"The Hero's Journey" is a short work for solo piano inspired by Homer's Odyssey and the timeless themes of adventure, adversity, perseverance, and triumph. Using melodies based on the notes of the Dorian mode, the musical language harkens back to ancient Western musical traditions, while an undulating two-measure ostinato suggests the rise and fall of a ship on rough seas. The piece follows an ABA structure, slowly building to a dramatic climax without fully resolving—as though the hero's journey remains incomplete.
