About the Score

Commissioned by the Fox Chapel Area High School Madrigal Singers, Benjamin Murray, conductor. This poem, by Peter's long time collaborator, Mark A. Boyle, was also commissioned by the group, Fox being in their name, Mark went to the Aesop fable and set it in poetry. Since the group is called the Madrigal Singers, Peter set the poem in the style of a madrigal. The solo viola takes the character of the fox, and has a little fun during the "caterwauling wail" section of the piece.
