About the Score
The Flower of Beauty Slumbers is a piece for SATB Choir, Piano, and Cello. It is a setting of a poem by Irish poet George Darley with vivid imagery and hints of mysticism. Commissioned by the Longmont Chorale for their 75th Anniversary Season, the piece is a conversation between loved ones separated by great distance. The opening, and closing, cello melody represents a call, or the message of love, to which the choir responds in harmonies of longing. With beautiful and very playable cello and piano parts this song of love is fitting for concerts throughout the year.
