The Snow I Hated - $2.00 x

About the Score

‘Scenes and Weavings’ is a set of short pieces for eight-part a cappella mixed choir.  In English, the work is based on translations by David G. Lanoue of poems by Japanese haiku master Kobayashi Issa.  In exploring Issa’s texts, I was struck by the powerful dramatic progression that I found within each of the works that I chose to set, and I sought to capture this sense of drama in my settings of Issa’s ‘scenes’.

‘Scenes and Weavings’ was written in the Fall and Winter of 2011-2012 in Los Angeles, CA.  ‘The Snow I Hated’, the fourth and final piece in the set, was premiered by the 2011-2012 USC Thornton Chamber Singers, led by Jo-Michael Scheibe, on April 26, 2012, as part of their program ‘American Voices’ presented at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA.
