About the Score

‘Sich Überschwenken’ was written for and premiered in 2007 by Yale Schola Cantorum, led by Simon Carrington.  The piece is an exploration of a short poem by 17th century mystic Angelus Silesius.  In German, the work is for eight-part a cappella mixed choir.

In ‘Sich Überschwenken’, the full text is sung three times through.  Each statement is expressed from a different emotional perspective – first turmoil, then cautious hope, and finally celebratory bliss.
