About the Score

Commissioned by Christopher Marks for the East Organ Pipe Organ Festival in 2019, Roulade is a piece where I started attempting to reconcile some of the various sonorites and textures that come into my musical imagination. Sometimes the ideas are quite disparate. In this piece an angular, rhythmic idea with a solo stop is contrasted with a completely different lyrical and romantic idea. Instead of integrating them, I let them live next to one another in tension.
