About the Score

I composed this piece in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, but in the wake of the terrible events in Ukraine, I decided to dedicate this piece for peace in that country. The song is inspired by Allen Pote's setting, beautifully arranged by Robert Delgado. In the main section, the song describes melodically and harmonically what the text suggests: hatred, love, injury, pardon, doubt, faith, despair, hope, darkness, light, sadness, joy. The third section corresponds to the second stanza of the poem, with an abrupt change of key (D major). The music becomes dramatic from the text 'for it is in giving...', until it reaches a great release in 'Eternal Life'. The re-exposition is more forceful and orchestral, ending with a coda similar to the introduction, serene and confident. Prayer of St. Francis was premiered by NEOVOCALIS, conducted by myself, on 2 April 2022 whitin the HOPE project.
