About the Score

“Our revels now are ended” is dedicated to my late step-mother, Martha Henry, who was a source of constant encouragement as I embarked on my late-in-life, choral composing project. I chose this famous text to honour Martha, as she spoke these very words in her penultimate role as Prospero in the 2018 Stratford Festival production of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” NB: the song's intro/outro is meant to imitate the sound of church bells calling mourners to a funeral (in minor) and at the end accompanying them out of the church (in major), as the spirit rises up...
