About the Score

“One And The Same” by Octavio Paz, talks about the spaces quite literally between life and death, between now and when we were born, between comprehension. He uses abstract and beautiful language to create visuals like “white gardens that explode in air” and “place of impalpable nuptials”. This inspired in me the need to write complex harmonies that sound somewhat beyond our understanding to get these ideas across. This piece received its premiere on April 10, 2010 with the Miami University Chorale (Ethan Sperry, director).
