About the Score

The text is Hildegard von Bingen's 'Respond of the Virgin Mary' from her 'Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations'. Crafted in a polyphonic style that harks back to an earlier era, the motet imparts a sense of timelessness over the centuries since the 12th century composer penned her setting. The solo part mimics the style of Hildegard's writing. This SATB edition was first sung by The King's Counterpoint at Canterbury Cathedral during evensong, Aug 2018. This followed the premiere of an upper voices edition at St John the Evangelist Cathedral, Cleveland, OH by Contrapunctus EM.
