O Magnum Mysterium - $2.00 x

About the Score

O Magnum Mysterium was the Composition Competition Winner for the Florida Vocal Association's 1994 All-State Convention. The prestigious Reading Chorus premiered this piece in the beautiful Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. The University of South Florida Chamber Singers then also performed the selection a few years later, under the direction of Dr. Robert Summer.

This SATB, a cappella choral setting of the famous Latin text describes the birth of Christ. It is taken from the responsorial chants in the Matins of Christmas liturgy. This arrangement is well-suited for any choir, small or large, and features a unique mid-word text placement strategy.

Latin text: O magnum mysterium, et admirabile sacramentum, ut animalia viderent Dominum natum, jacentem in praesepio! Beata Virgo, cujus viscera meruerunt portare Dominum Christum. Alleluia.

English translation: O great mystery, and wonderful sacrament, that animals should see the new-born Lord, lying in a manger! Blessed is the Virgin whose womb was worthy to bear Christ the Lord. Alleluia!
