About the Score

What fun to discover that the traditional melody of Sourwood Mountain worked perfectly with the whimsical text of Michael Finnigin. I added some original verses and tongue twisting responses in place of "Hey ding dong dilly dally day" (e.g. "Sing a little witty ditty any time ya' can." "Have a little bit a pity every now and then.") This novelty piece was commissioned by the Fort Wayne Children's and premiered in spring 2023. The request was for a 2-part piece in folk style. This video is of the second performance by the Indiana University Children's Choir, conducted by Jenna Sears. The very creative motions were invented by the choristers. I encourage others to have fun bringing the jokes to life! Enjoy!!
