About the Score

A setting of two short (secular) Emily Dickinson poems. This composition incorporates a familiar hymn tune (OLD HUNDREDTH) and also contains a variety of choral textures and dynamic levels to showcase an accomplished mixed ensemble. Repetition is also used to make the work accessible for both the singers and the audience.

In this short Life that only (merely) lasts an hour How much - how little - is within our pow'r.

Look back on Time with kindly Eyes. He doubtless did his best. How softly sinks his trembling Sun In Human Nature’s West.

- Emily Dickinson "Look Back on Time with Kindly Eyes" was premiered by the Minneapolis based chamber choir, From Age to Age, as part of their 2018 Made in Minnesota concerts.
