Magnificat

Nunc Dimittis

An unaccompanied SATB setting with some sop divisi of moderate to hard difficulty, the latter primarily due to the fairly lengthy text if performed during evensong when both the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis are sung.

Composed for The King's Counterpoint 2018 summer residency at Canterbury Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. The use of Latin and the polyphonic style of composition impart a sense of timelessness appropriate for the spacious and historic building in which they were first sung. The well received premiere took place in Canterbury Cathedral during Evensong, Aug 2018.
