About the Score

My setting of Kyrie (Eleison), which was written in the Fall of 2014 and premiered on Sept. 27, 2015 during and evening church service at the Berlin Cathedral in Berlin, Germany by the incomparable English Choir Berlin under the direction of Ms. Kathy Bird; is a modern setting of the sacred text, written during a time when I felt burdened by the tumultuous time our world was/ is going through. I wrote it specifically for this choir and venue. (see performance recording link). There is a cluster chord at the end that grows from pp to fff drowning out the soprano motif, signifying "being lost in the madness of the world" yet our simple prayer "God have mercy" is still heard. I am currently working on a version of this piece accompanied by strings. Stay tuned!
