About the Score

"About IN LIGHT As I wrote this poem and this piece, I was inspired by several concepts around “light,” and the work is consequently broken up into three sections depicting these inspirations: the first section is about light as a source of knowledge and inspiration; the second is about the playful, ebullient nature of light as it dances inside each of us; the final section is about the healing and Divine aspect of light — the ultimate source of all life. There is another element to the piece in that its sonic evolution is very much like light sparking and growing; photons dancing and shooting; and beams bursting in spectacular blindness and joy. For the text, I adapted the Roman liturgy’s “Lux æterna” text to say “let light eternal shine on all people,” since I believe that the Divine is not reserved for a few, but rather is a blessing for all. I translated this phrase into Hebrew, Greek, and Hindi, as well, to further the universal message of the poem.

This work was premiered the week the tragic shootings in Sandy Hook occurred. The piece is dedicated to those victims and their loved ones."
