About the Score

I am the Way was commissioned by Saint Louis College Chorale in San Fernando (La Union), Philippines, and its conductor, Maryknoll Ylagan. The text includes a well-known phrase from the Gospel of John. The work contains two great ascents in which the key words (Way, Truth, Like) are strongly emphasized with ascending intervals and soft melisms. After a great climax at the end of the second section, the speech is immersed in a quiet coda with descending motifs that bring great serenity to the word ‘amen’.

I am the Way was premiered online by the Saint Louis College Chorale on 23 November 2020.
