Performed live by Choral Arts Initiative. Brandon Elliot, Artistic Director. As part of the CAI ICON Series, "Hold Fast" is a choral piece for SATB divisi choir and vibraphone. Using the text of Langston Hughes' "Dreams," this harmonically dense piece of music will recall images of dreamscapes and ambiance. The piece begins with a rhythmic melody in the sopranos and then explodes in harmony with full divisi voices and a catchy vibraphone riff. It then enters into romantic harmony, teasing the listener with functioning and non-functioning resolutions to then finish with a soft chorale, lulling the listener into dreams. Premiered by Choral Arts Initiative on July 1, 2022 in Irvine, CA as part of CAI's PREMIER Project Festival.
