About the Score

The original setting of this piece was without piano and premiered in 2010 by the Murrieta Valley High School Concert Choir conducted by Jaclyn Johnson. As choirs continued performing it acapella, the score eventually evolved into what it is now; a fanfare-like work for piano and chorus. Keeping its structure and overall sentiment the same, I wanted this newest setting to amplify all the phrases of gratitude — sometimes bursting with joy, at other times somber and bittersweet. I also wanted to showcase the vocal and emotional strength of the ensemble performing it, as both a unified body of people and as introspective individuals.
