About the Score

We are all stars, we are to illuminate and be illuminated by those around us. This piece will always remain in my heart because it has been the result of the commission of very luminous people who have given me warmth while I was recovering from a hard setback of health. This work is the adventure of mutual support. We are lighting our way, but the neighboring stars -those people who are our loved ones on any plane of existence- create and guide that way with more light than we are capable of perceiving. Galaxias is the most popular piece in the Santiago repertoire, having been performed countless times since its premiere in Nova Scotia by The Cantabile Singers, conducted by Chris Bowman in 2021. The second performance was by Seamans' King's Chorale, conducted by William Perrot, followed by concerts in the USA (a VMEA Conference) and Ireland by the W&L University Singers. Eric Johnson also performed the piece with the NIU Chamber Choir during Santiago Veros' visit. Most recently, the Lawrence University Concert Choir recorded the piece under the composer's direction.
