About the Score

"Free Spirit, Free Mind" was written to honor the women in my life and to acknowledge those who have raised me and influenced me, musically and personally. The text is less my statement on their behalf than it is an observance of the pain, joy, strength and defiance experienced by the women who currently bring so much to my life. The piece is intended to be used with the original electronic accompaniment track, but can also be effectively performed with a synthesizer or electric piano, using the keyboard part included in the score. It is ideally suited for a program exploring social issues, or to add an "epic" feel when needed. "Free Spirit, Free Mind" was commissioned by Inversion Ensemble for the October 2022 "Electric Choir" concert.
