About the Score

Five Miniatures was conceived as a non-developmental collection of tiny ideas, hence the title, and the lack of rambling program notes. While movements 1, 3, and 5 are quite closely related, movements 2 and 4 serve as contrasting interludes that give space and variety to the piece's overall structure. More specifically, the third movement was composed in such a way that each instrument’s part can stand alone - these parts are therefore used separately as the first and last movements of the piece. Five Miniatures was composed for cellist Evan Kahn.
