About the Score

Originally scored for SSAA, String Orchestra, and Organ, Fecit Potentiam is the fourth movement of the six-movement Magnificat.

This text comes from Luke 1:46-55. Mary praises God for her favor, as she is chosen to be the mother of Christ. Porpora's setting depicts both the ecstatic joy of this lowly woman and the profound strength of her faith. The singers should delight in the exquisite vocal writing and counterpoint of Niccola Porpora. In this edition, an eight measure introduction has been added, and should only be used when performing this movement alone.

Performances include: 2011 Michigan All-State Treble Honors Chorus 2016 Organization of American Kodaly Educator's National Women's Honors Chorus 2017 Texas All-State Treble Honors Chorus
