SECULAR TEXT (by the composer) Dreaming in darkness, we entreat you, O Night! through your long shadows, to defend them from the terrors and visions of their dreams; for the love of their untarnished hopes, protect our children, Night, dreaming in darkness.

SACRED TEXT (Book of Common Prayer) Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
