About the Score

The variety of vertical and horizontal textures in "The Dancer" guides singers to creating a rich, thick soundscape. Sudden dynamic changes, juxtaposed by gradual movements, evoke the emotional story of a dancer's glorious performance. Sharp dissonances resolve to compelling consonances, and lead to surprising harmonic shifts. This piece calls singers to be versatile and confident, and challenges the different vocal sections to listen closely to all parts throughout the choir.

"The Dancer" was premiered by The Choral Project in San Jose, California during the summer of 2011.
