About the Score
"Carol of Hope", which borrows its name from the tune name for the text “Each winter as the year grows older”, is an arrangement for two part mixed voices and piano. With one short section in a simple four part harmony, this setting uses the tune as the basis for five stanzas of text, appropriate for use during the Advent Season. The second stanza's dark imagery of war and social unrest is immediately followed by the reassurance of life after death and hope out of horror. With a rhythmic piano interlude, this arrangement has some fun challenges for the accompanist, and will sing easily for church choirs and community groups.
