About the Score

This light, fun, but challenging piece for treble voices is an exploration of myths and storytelling. Named after both the calliope organ and the greek muse of song, dance, and poetry, this piece juxtaposes the similar Greek and Roman myths of Diana and Artemis. "Calliope Music" playfully explores the purposes behind the stories we tell and will invite plenty of opportunities for poetic interpretation. Throughout, the buoyant mixed-meter is enlivened by a tricky piano part which also provides ample harmonic support, before ending in a way that reminds the listener "if this all seems serious... it isn't!" If your treble or women's choir can handle a challenge, this is the piece for them.
