About the Score

In just a few lines of text, Sara Teasdale conveys the expanse of a cold evening outside, and how being alone in such a big space, she is free of the smallness and limits imposed on her by other people, free to breathe and dream and be fully herself. The musical texture of this work starts out simply but expands in density and range to create a sonic impression of the poetry.

This piece won the 2019 Cincinnati Camerata prize and was scheduled to be performed in May 2020. You can guess what happened with that :) Since then, the piece has languished on my hard drive and so I would love to get a virtual reading session if possible. If not, no worries. I don't have any upcoming performances of this scheduled, nor any real recordings (I can provide a basic MIDI mockup for anyone wishing to read through this).
