About the Score

Originally titled "Hodie," "Arrival of the King" was inspired by the West African rhythm "Abondan" from Ivory Coast. This rhythm was played whenever the king went out. In this piece, the rhythm combines with the choir singing about the arrival of Christ the King, who was born in Bethlehem.
Premiered by the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus in December, 2017.
