About the Score

A quodlibet of three traditional Scots songs and an original setting of "Flowers O' The Forest", this is a strongly anti-war piece, contrasting the calls to war by men who followed Bonnie Prince Charlie with the lamentations of women and children who grew up without them. Commissioned by Humberstone Choral Society. Rudsambee, St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, 13th August 2017

  • Excellent piece

Motje Wolf on January 10, 2024

This is a very effective piece suitable for community choirs and choral societies alike. My choir, who also commissioned it, really liked learning and performing it. The mix of known melodies interwoven with other musical material makes the piece instantly accessible for the audience and the singers, too. Needless to say, the audience really loved it, too. I can also very much recommend getting in touch with Chris Hutchings, the composer, if you're interested in commissioning a piece. Working with him was a fantastic experience, he was absolutely reliable and worked excellently towards the brief we gave him.
