About the Score

Ubi Caritas was my first complete composition written for what is now the Louisiana Ovation Vocal Ensemble. I was in the process of choosing repertoire for a Taize service and wanted to program a setting of this beautiful text. As I searched, I realized many of the a cappella settings were not suited for the group. One evening as I was sitting at the piano noodling, the opening phrase of this composition emerged. I continued to develop my ideas and finally arrived at a piece that seemed appropriate.
